Chinese Ambassador to Samoa, Wang Xuefeng, hosted a farewell function for them at the Chinese Embassy in Vailima yesterday.

It is the third bilateral training programme this year organised by the Chinese government for Samoa.

Discussions at the seminar will revolve around participants sharing their knowledge on finances and economics, while getting insights on China’s financial policy and how it implemented reforms that led to its success as a global economic power.

Mr. Wang said the seminar’s programme lineup was designed based on feedback and suggestions from previous participants and will be a rewarding experience for the 19 public servants.

“We will not only invite the professors from China’s universities, government officials and major business managers to introduce China’s financial policy and experience of reform and opening up, you will also be visiting some major listed companies, new high-tech enterprises and government departments in field of finance and economics and to have meetings with people at all levels in related fields,” he said.

This year, China will host its first China International Import Expo in Shanghai from November 5-10.

Mr. Wang indicated that invitations have been sent to countries around the world including Samoa.

“The expo will not only provide opportunities for countries around the world to expand export to China, but also to create platform for countries to engage in international trade and share business opportunities with each other,” he said.

The public servants will fly to New Zealand today on Samoa Airways and transit to a flight to China.

Mr. Wang said they will strive to support the national airline by ensuring participants sponsored by the Chinese government travel on Samoa Airways.

He thanked the Samoan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Public Service Commission for working with the Chinese Embassy to select the participants and organize the seminar. The bureaucrats will fly today and return July 19.
