BayWa has an extensive portfolio of activities, from energy to agriculture. The group reported an EBIT of 32.1 million euro (2017: 72.8 million euro). This result is the consequence of the fact that sales in renewable energy take place in the second half of the year. Last year, one department managed to sell a large amount of solar panels and sets of wind turbines in the first half of the year.
The weather clearly influenced results within the Agriculture segment, which also includes the fruit trade. Frost and hail last year meant a smaller volume of German fruit was available. International subsidiaries T&G Global and TFC Holland could only partially compensate for these losses. Because of the good expectations of the coming German top fruit season, the company expects a better result towards the end of the year.
On the international market, the company profited from the good market for New Zealand apples marketed via T&G. The Agriculture Segment department, which also includes non-fresh produce products, reported a turnover of 5.8 billion euro and an EBIT of 52.4 million euro (2017: 5.6 million euro and 48.3 million euro respectively).
