Simon Bridges has written to the Prime Minister and Minister for Climate Change offering to work with them to establish an independent Climate Change Commission and bipartisan approach to tackling climate change.
"In our Pre-election Manifesto to MPs, our members called for a bi-partisan approach to climate change, so they will be delighted to see the National Party make this offer," Executive Director Abbie Reynolds said."This will be necessary if we are to meet our Paris Agreement commitments."
The Pre-Election Manifesto, which surveyed SBC’s member businesses, found their top sustainability issue is the transition to a low emissions economy.
"Many of NZs leading businesses are ambitious about action on climate change and committed to doing their bit. They are assessing the impact it will have on their operations. They are reducing their own emissions and some are innovating to reduce emissions in the products they sell to customers. They need greater clarity and certainty on climate change policy so that decisions about investment, innovation and business growth are futureproof."
"SBC member businesses want to accelerate New Zealand’s transition to a low-emissions economy and ensure that prosperity is shared."
